Early Enrollment Opportunities

Early Enrollment Opportunities

Youngstown State University offers programs that provide additional academic opportunities to 7th-12th-grade students who have demonstrated college readiness. The programs allow students to experience college-level coursework, supplement their high school curriculum, enjoy special interests, and accumulate college credit. Credits earned can be applied toward a program at Youngstown State University or may be transferable to other institutions. These programs include:

COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS (CCP)

The YSU College Credit Plus program (CCP) offers credit-bearing college courses to 7th-12th grade students. Students earn college credit on an official YSU transcript, which is transferable to any state-funded college or university in Ohio and to some private and out-of-state schools. In addition:

  • Students can enroll in eligible classes for which they are qualified. Classes are offered on campus, online, or at the high school (course offerings vary). See the College Credit Plus website for course eligibility and information about course offerings in each school district.
  • The program offers two payment options. Students can be self-pay (Option A) or state-funded (Option B). See the Student Cost: Option A vs. Option B webpage for more information.

CAREER PATHWAY SUPPORT NETWORK (CPSN)

This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and the Ohio Department of Higher Education, designed to strengthen regional career-technical education infrastructure and ensure more Ohio students are prepared for in-demand careers.

Seven CPSN regional leads across Ohio collaborate with their steering committees and focus on increasing access to and participation in middle grades (7-10) career-technical education. This grant directly supports career services provided to students enrolled in all community schools, STEM schools, affiliated higher education institutions, and school districts, including joint vocational school districts within a defined JobsOhio Region. Students who complete an approved career-technical program and matriculate to YSU post-high school graduation are eligible for college credits through potential articulation agreements and Career Technical Assurance Guides (CTAG).
