Under certain circumstances, students may complete coursework at another accredited college or university while continuing their studies at Youngstown State University.
Students who wish to take coursework at another institution must work with their academic advisor to submit a Transient Student Authorization request. The request identifies the course(s) the student plans to take and allows the university to determine how the coursework will apply toward degree requirements.
Students should obtain approval before enrolling in or completing coursework at another institution. Submission of a Transient Student Authorization request does not constitute approval. Coursework completed without prior approval may not be applicable to degree requirements.
Transient coursework may affect University residency requirements, particularly for students who are within one year of graduation. Students should consult their academic advisor and review the Graduation Requirements section of this catalog.
Grades earned through transient coursework are not included in the Youngstown State University grade point average (GPA) and are not considered when determining eligibility for graduation honors. Approved coursework transfers as credit only.
To receive transfer credit for approved transient coursework, students must:
- Earn a grade of C or higher in each approved course;
- Enroll at Youngstown State University in the semester immediately following completion of the transient coursework; and
- Submit an official transcript from the other institution to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Official transcripts must be sent directly by the issuing institution, either electronically through a secure transcript service (such as Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse) or by mail in a sealed envelope. Opened or unsealed transcripts are not considered official.
