Youngstown State University recognizes its responsibility to protect the health and assure the safety of all people on campus. The Department of Environmental Health and Safety and the Office of Risk Management assure the university provides a safe working and learning environment and also provides resources if someone has an accident on campus, becomes injured, or needs any assistance during an emergency.
The Department of Environmental Health and Safety and the Office of Risk Management oversees campus wide programs that promote the safety and health of all people while on campus or participating in YSU activities and events. The department has established working relations with community officials, regulatory agencies and local first responder and emergency organization to not only be in compliance with regulations but to strive to be one of the safest universities in the area. The safety and health of our campus is our priority, and we show this by working closely with academic departments and student organizations to ensure all classrooms, laboratories, makerspaces, and other learning spaces are kept clean and hazard free. We also provide training for faculty and staff relating to emergency response and ensure critical life safety equipment is provided and kept in good working condition. Events, camps, and other activities that occurs on campus are preplanned and organized to provide the best experience possible without the risk of unplanned incidents or accidents.
The Campus Safety Division includes the University Police and the Department of Environmental Health and Safety and the Office of Risk Management and are part of the Division of Finance and Operations. These areas work closely together to provide a safe and secure campus as well as respond to all campus accidents and emergencies.
